Working with different marketing platforms can be challenging and disorienting when it comes to data management. This is why, unifying your data in a single destination, you can get a clear picture of how your marketing campaigns and business are performing. One of the best ways to store marketing data is by using a cloud storage or a data warehouse platform.

Luckily, Supermetrics integrates with a handful of cloud storage and data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Redshift. Furthermore, collecting your data on the cloud platforms helps you take control of all the historical data. Also, you can use cloud computing resources to analyze your data.

In this post, I will guide you step-by-step on how to use the popular data warehouses and cloud storage integrations that Supermetrics has to offer.

Snowflake

Snowflake is a cloud computing data warehousing company. It helps organizations mobilize data with nearly unlimited power, performance, and concurrency. Let’s look at how to use Snowflake with Supermetrics. Before starting, make sure that you have signed up for both platforms.

Step 1: Create a destination on the Supermetrics website

Follow these steps to create a destination.

Login to your dashboard.

Navigate to the transfer data section.

Click on destinations >> create destination (click new if you have an existing destination).

Amazon S3

Amazon S3 is a simple cloud data storage platform that stores data as objects. This platform uses the same infrastructure as Amazon.com for scalability. It can host different data types such as applications, data archives, backup and recovery, hybrid cloud storage, and Data Lake for analytics. This is how to use Supermetrics with Amazon S3 cloud storage.

Amazon S3 Prerequisites

Before you begin configuring the Amazon S3 destination, you need to ensure you meet the following prerequisite. Otherwise, the connection will not work successfully.

Amazon S3 Bucket

The bucket will host data from Supermetrics.

Permissions

The Amazon S3 subfolder used as the destination needs the putObject permission. This permission is not mandatory, but it is useful. Furthermore, you can grant the deleteObject permission to automatically remove the empty setup file generated during testing.

IP Allowlisting

If you have set up an IAM policy that allows only certain IPS, IP allowlisting is required. Make sure to add the following IP addresses to your AWS IAM policy. Supermetrics will use these addresses to transfer data to your Amazon S3 account.

54.217.129.200

54.220.179.34

54.155.253.26

Remember to add your IP address!

Step 1: Create a destination

Whenever you wish to transfer data to a data warehouse data lake or cloud storage, you have to create a destination in the super metrics dashboard.

Login to your dashboard.

Navigate to integrations >>Destinations.

Create a destination or a new destination if you have existing destinations.

Choose Amazon S3 Bucket as the destination type and click next.

Fill in the required details.

Test if the connection is successful and save. If the connection is not successful, go through your details and submit them again.

Step 2: Configure the destination

The process of creating a destination is similar INvarious data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud storage platforms. However, the destination configuration is unique as each platform has a different infrastructure. Take a look at the steps on how to configure Amazon S3 storage.

Fill in the fields with accurate Information, including:

Display Name: Enter a unique name that will help you distinguish this destination from other destinations in the super metrics dashboard.

Bucket name: Choose the Amazon S3 bucket you wish to use as your destination. Amazon s3 uses buckets as storage containers. You can store any type of data in a bucket. Each Amazon S3 account has a limit of 100 buckets. If you are not sure of the bucket, launch the Amazon S3 dashboard and check the name under Services>S3.

Upload Path: Select a folder structure inside your AmazonS3 destination bucket. If the path you specify exists, Supermetrics will transfer data to that folder; otherwise, it will be forced to create a new folder based on the path you provide.

Output format: You can select your preferred output format of the data you transfer to the Amazon S3 bucket.

Access Key: This is to verify ownership of the Amazon S3 account. You can get the access key In the AWS dashboard >> my security credentials.

Access secret: This is the secret access key for your access key ID. A corresponding secret access key is generated for every access key you generate.

Step 3: Backfill your data

Supermetrics comes with a Backfill feature that allows you to add historical data to the destination.

Google Cloud Storage

Google Cloud Storage allows users to store data as objects. This means you can store data in any format you like. Most people use Google-related products, and Google Cloud is not an exception. Luckily, Supermetrics allows users to connect and transfer data to Google Cloud Storage. Here are the steps to use Supermetrics with Google Cloud Storage.

Prerequisites

You need to meet the following prerequisite for successful configuration. The following data can be obtained from the Google Cloud dashboard.

Display name

Choose any name you wish to help you distinguish this transfer from others.

Bucket name

Just like in Amazon S3, Google also uses Buckets to store data. Look for your preferred bucket name in the dashboard under Cloud storage > Browser.

Output format

This feature provides you with options to choose your preferred output format.

Upload path

It refers to the location/folder inside the google storage bucket you wish to store the data. If you choose an existing folder, Supermetrics will transfer all the data inside that folder. However, if the folder does not exist, Supermetrics will create a new folder under the name specified.

Auth Key

You need to enter an Auth Key in Supermetrics for a successful data transfer to your Google Cloud account. The auth key is located at IAM &Admin>>service Accounts. It should look like JSON code. Make sure to copy and paste the entire code to the configuration field.

Step 1: Create a destination

Login to your Supermetrics dashboard and create a destination. Remember to choose Google Cloud Storage as your destination.

Step 2: Configure storage destination

It is important to configure the destination using accurate Information from your Google Cloud storage.

The Google Cloud platform has another product that integrates seamlessly with Supermetrics called Google BigQuery. If you want to learn more about it, you can take a look at “The Beginner’s Guide to Using BigQuery with Google Data Studio” that we released a while back.

Redshift

Redshift is a service by Amazon that offers a petabyte-scale warehouse. It allows users to store huge data from gigabytes to petabytes and more. After uploading the data sets, you can use SQL-based tools to perform queries and data analysis. You can link Supermetrics to Redshift by following these steps.

Prerequisites

You will need to fill out the following data in the configuration steps. All these prerequisites have to be met to use Redshift as a Supermetrics destination. They ensure that a connection between these two platforms can be established.

Database and Schema

Before creating a redshift destination, you need to ensure that you have a Redshift cluster, Schema, and database.

Managing Schema changes

Supermetrics can make schema changes in Redshift. You or someone in your team can initiate such a change using the query manager. However, you need to ensure that Redshift has all it needs to perform the changes. Follow these guidelines:

Use views with NO SCHEMA BINDING

Redshift enables Schema binding for views by default. So the tables referenced by the views cannot undergo schema changes or be dropped. For this reason, users need to use views with no schema binding, especially the ones that reference super metrics tables.

Remove Key constraints

Key constraints can hinder schema changes sometimes. That’s why users are encouragednot to use them while dealing with Supermetrics.

Permissions

If you are a Redshift team member, you need to have CREATE and USAGE permissions. Otherwise, you need to have user credentials with these permissions. Only Redshift cluster admins can grant users the required permissions.

IP Allowlisting

If your organization allows selected networks only, you will have to allow the IP addresses from Supermetrics. Add the following IP addresses, including your own, to not be locked out.

54.155.253.26

54.217.129.200

23.20.234.176

54.220.179.34

Your IP/Organizations IP

The settings are located under Network and Security settings>Listed VPC security>group>Edit Inbound Rules.

Step 1: Open the Supermetrics dashboard and configure a destination

Use the prerequisites that we have discussed above to configure the destination.

Step 3: Run a backfill

A backfill helps users add historical data to Redshift and other preferred storage. Before using this feature, you need to ensure that you have created a destination and data transfer. Here are the steps to run a backfill to Redshift.

Login to your Team Site on Supermetrics.

Click on Transfers on the left.

Open the action menu>>Backfill for the Redshift transfer.

Set the dates for your historical data and click ok.

Note that there are limitations to using the backfill feature. Some data sources limit the amount the range of historical data that you can fetch. Backfilling data can take several weeks or months. So if you are using a trial version, data will be backfilled for 14 days only.

Azure Storage

Azure is a cloud storage platform powered by Microsoft. It allows users to store various data objects on its highly reliable, durable, scalable, and secure storage. Just like other cloud storage platforms we have mentioned above, you can use Microsoft Azure Storage with Supermetrics following these steps:

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites have to be met to use Supermetrics with Microsoft Azure storage.

Permissions

A minimum role of Reader and Data access is needed for Supermetrics to have enough permissions to complete the transfer. The permissions should be applied in the destination container of Azure Storage.

Access Key

Supermetrics requires an access key to authenticate transfers.

IP Allowlisting

Make sure the following IP addresses can access your Microsoft Azure storage.Note that you need to meet a minimum role of storage account contributor to modify firewall settings in Azure Storage. If you do not meet this role, you need to ask the admin to add these Supermetrics IP addresses. Of course, don’t forget to include your IP address.

Your IP address

54.155.253.26

54.217.129.200

54.220.179.34

Similar to the steps described in the previous platforms, you need to create a destination. Then initiate a transfer and backfill the data that you are planning to connect.

Final Thoughts

It’s always important to store your data in cloud storage, data lakes, and warehouses. But using the manual way can be time-consuming and tiresome. This is where Supermetrics comes in!

You can add various data sources and automate the process saving you hours of manual labor. Supermetrics works with all the popular cloud storage platforms. All you need is to get permissions and the necessary details to configure a connection for data transfer.

As you probably already know, Supermetrics is a one-stop business software that allows marketers and analytics teams to pick up all their marketing data and bring it to their preferred analytics, reporting, or storage platform. In this post, I wanted to explore a lesser-known data integration products that Supermetrics offers, namely Microsoft Azure Storage. The Azure Storage integration allows users to store marketing data in a central location and enables them to connect/select data without tedious data extraction or scripting operations. Besides, it offers customizable template configurations to store data exactly the way you want it.

How does Supermetrics for Azure Storage Work? (in short)

Login to your Supermetrics portal.

Click on “Integrations” and choose Supermetrics for Azure Storage.

Choose the container from your Azure portal where you want to move data.

Set up the transfer by choosing the data source, schema, and account. That’s about it, data will start flowing to your storage as configured.

Before you begin creating your destination storage you need to configure the Azure container environment. Let us look at the prerequisites.

Prerequisites

The Azure destination should support containers such as Storage, StorageV2, or Blob Storage.

You will need an Access key/Connection string for authentication in the Supermetrics portal.

Make sure you have sufficient permissions. For example, you need to have a Reader and Data Access role. If you are the owner or a storage account contributor then you already have all the permissions and you can proceed to the next step.

IP whitelisting: If the storage account allows access only from selected networks then you need to whitelist your IP address by clicking firewalls and virtual networks. Add the following Supermetrics addresses and your own IP address.

54.155.253.26

54.217.129.200

54.220.179.34

Your IP Address

Supermetrics is a data automation tool that helps digital marketers gather all their SEO, PPC, Web, and social analytics into one place. This can be either your storage analytics or your go-to reporting platform. For example, it can collect all your marketing data into a spreadsheet, BI tool, data warehouse, Data Lake, or a data visualization tool. Supermetrics is made up of different connectors uniquely optimized to draw the best insights from each platform.

In this post, I will be reviewing the Top 8 most useful and powerful Supermetrics connectors and in what way you can use them to generate insights.

Supermetrics Connectors

A bit more about the Supermetrics connectors. They are also referred to as Supermetrics integrations. These connectors integrate with the most popular platforms out there. There are 60+ connectors available trusted by more than 500K marketers around the world. Supermetrics is a powerful tool because it helps marketers organize data in a better way, create visually captivating reports and save time. It comes with many customizable templates tailored to each data source connector. You can choose any of the following destination platforms just to name a few:

Supermetrics for Google Data Studio

Supermetrics for Google Sheets

Supermetrics for Excel

Supermetrics API

Supermetrics for Azure Storage

Supermetrics for Amazon S3

Supermetrics for Google Cloud Storage

Supermetrics Uploader

Supermetrics Snowflake

Supermetrics for Google BigQuery (I also have a BigQuery guide for beginners)

Top 8 Supermetrics Data Source Connectors

Now, let’s dive into the top connectors (in my opinion) out there and why that is the case!

1. Supermetrics Facebook

Facebook is probably the most widely used social media platform out there. The reason being, it has all kinds of active audiences. With Supermetrics, marketers can extract the most valuable data from Facebook Ads, Facebook Insights, Facebook Audience Network, and Facebook Public Data. This platform comes with nice templates to store your most valuable data and then connect it to your preferred cloud storage or data visualization tool.

Supermetrics makes extracting Facebook ads data very simple. Also, it helps you sort the data that you need to remain with the relevant and most useful data. Once you get all the metrics that you need, you can move it to any destination of your choices, such as Google Sheets, Tableau, Snowflake, Data Studio, and more.

You can extract any metrics from Facebook Insights using Supermetrics as well. For example, you can extract Page Likes, Reach, Engagement, Post Actions, Reactions, Content Impressions, and much more. Another super useful configuration setting is the fact that you can play with the attribution window when important data and tweak it based on what your company is using. This is huge for marketers!

2. Supermetrics Instagram

If you are a marketer targeting Instagram, then Supermetrics will be very helpful. You can use it to gather both Instagram Insights and Instagram Public Data. This tool grants marketers access to all the Instagram Insight metrics and allows them to create custom reports.

The best thing about using Supermetrics for Instagram is that you can pull data from multiple accounts. Multiple account reporting helps marketers save time rather than pulling data from one account at a time. You can also move the insights to your favorite destination with a click of a button— no more copy and pasting.

This tool also offers the easiest way to organize Instagram’s public data. You can follow the trending topics, monitor industry performance, and benchmark competition. Besides, you can create cross-channel reports. For example, you can analyze your marketing performance by combining paid and public data from Instagram with Twitter and Facebook.

3. Supermetrics Pinterest

Supermetrics offers marketers the easiest way to move their Pinterest Ads Data, Organic Data, and Public Data (I even have a live demo of this in my course). This tool comes with hundreds of templates to choose from according to your needs. Once you choose the most suitable template, you can now gather your most relevant data from Pinterest.

After gathering the data, you can easily move it to your preferred storage location or reporting tool. Supermetrics provides reliable data reports. It does not mess with the names or number of fields, yet it provides you with an already-to-use format.

This tool is great because it provides a complete performance overview. You can combine both web Analytics and the Pinterest Ads data. You can explore the Pinterest Ads Report Template for Google Data Studio further as well.

4. Supermetrics LinkedIn

Over the past few months, I had the chance to look a bit deeper into the popular marketing automation tool Supermetrics and create an introduction course for it (available on Udemy and Skillshare). As you probably know from your own experience, when there are multiple data sources (from various platforms) it becomes difficult to ensure they are always up-to-date, error-free and follow consistent formatting. In fact, let me know if this sounds familiar:

You are a marketing agency that buys media from a variety of vendors whose buying and reporting systems are different. In some cases, you might even have to receive manual reports via e-mail on a weekly basis, which impacts your reporting cadence and creates extra work for your team. Of course, Data Studio has some incredible native connectors available for free, but they don’t necessarily cover all platforms.

This has been the combined feedback from a lot of people that I have talked to in the industry. Even though there are other automation tools out there, I find Supermetrics to be super (no pun intended) easy to use and affordable, especially for smaller agencies. If you are new to the marketing automation world, here is some addition information about my Introduction to Supermetrics course.

What is Supermetrics?

Supermetrics is a data automation tools, connectors automatically fetch data from multiple platforms (e.g. Twitter Ads, Facebook Ads, Google Analytics and etc.) and pull it into any destination (Google BigQuery, Data Studio, Google Sheets and Excel). It also allows you to set up automatic data refreshes and scheduled emails. This eliminates the need to copy-paste marketing data into a reporting or data visualization platforms.
