Generative AI

A Beginner’s Guide to Writing Technical Prompts with ChatGPT

I’m excited to share that I have updated my course on technical prompts. I wanted to capture the state of AI in 2026, as a lot has change. This was the original course by the way.

As AI systems continue to evolve, the way we interact with them is also changing. What started as “simple prompts” has quickly grown into something much more powerful — structured conversations, agentic workflows, deep research, and even interactive data exploration.

This is where the next generation of technical prompts comes in.

In the updated course, I’m adding new lessons that explore how to leverage features like Agent Mode, advanced research capabilities, and AI-powered data analysis to solve more complex problems and automate workflows more effectively.

Before we dive in, here’s a quick reminder of what technical prompts actually entail.

What Are Technical Prompts?

Technical prompts take prompt engineering a step further. They are designed to help AI systems perform more complex tasks, such as:

  • analyzing data
  • generating structured reports
  • conducting research
  • supporting business workflows
  • creating structured content

They typically include several components that guide the AI more precisely.
